Maspalomas is great for family holidays thanks to the huge selection of fantastic things there are to do here but it’s also perfect for singles, couples and groups of friends.
Relax on Maspalomas’ beautiful golden beach and soak up the rays in comfort while enjoying the beautiful view of the ocean. There’s plenty of space for everyone and thanks to the beaches convenient location, you will have access to showers and toilets, as well as restaurants and bars. Don’t forget to check out the huge sand dunes, as they are definitely worth exploring.
Keep the whole family entertained by visiting the local waterpark, which is one of the largest in the Canaries and offers slides and pools for all ages. You can easily spend a whole day here and will no doubt want to come back again and again during your time in Maspalomos. Or why not spend the day exploring the many enclosures at the local zoo. Palmitos Park is home to many unique animals and boasts a number of entertaining shows where you will learn much about the animals involved. You may even get the chance to stroke a dolphin.
For the adults, there is a good selection of bars as well as venues playing live music, where you can enjoy an evening out without having to worry about the rowdy crowds of the bigger resorts. The laid back atmosphere will give you the chance to relax and socialize without having to talk over loud dance music.
Thanks to the resort being situated on the southern coast you can enjoy some of the best weather that the island has to offer. The temperature here is also around 5 degrees higher than what you will experience on the northern side, making it perfect for those who want to get the most out of the sunny weather. The climate also barely changes from one season to the next, meaning you can enjoy warm weather even in the winter.

Things to do

Maspalomas offers beach lovers just what they’re looking for, as it boasts a beautiful stretch of golden sand that leads into the clear, warm waters. It’s nice and close to the resort, so can be accessed easily wherever you are and offers plenty of room for everyone thanks to it being a flat expanse that stretches along the coast.

For added convenience there are showers and toilets, which are perfect for everyone especially for families with small children. There are also some restaurants and bars just off the beach, so you can literally spend a whole day on the beach without having to leave for food or drinks.

If you fancy a change from the beach but still want to relax and soak up the sun then make sure that you pay a visit to the Dunas de Maspalomas. These sand dunes are very impressive and were formed by sand blown over from the Sahara. There’s plenty of space here for you to relax and the shape of the dunes give great protection from the wind. The kids will love exploring them and will make you feel as if you’re in the middle of the desert.

When you start to get a little hot and want a good way to cool down, why not spend the day at Aqualand Maspalomas. This fantastic water park is huge and is in fact, one of the biggest in the Canary Islands, so you can be sure to find a superb selection of slides and pools that suit all ages, making it perfect for the whole family.

Another great attraction that’s perfect for everyone is the Palmitos Park Zoo. Here you will find a fascinating selection of animals that are extremely well looked after, including Primates, Birds, Fish, Dolphins and even a Komodo Dragon. There a number of animal shows and educational programs where you can get up close and personal to the Dolphins and even give them a stroke.

If you love golf then you’ll love Maspalomas holidays as it boasts two excellent golf courses that are challenging enough for any professional with both offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

The southern resort of Maspalomas is one of the best places on the island to enjoy the high summer temperatures that Gran Canaria is known for thanks to it’s beautiful beach and spacious sand dunes, giving you plenty of room to relax and soak up the sun without any interruptions.
The sky remains perfectly clear throughout the summer, with very few clouds to be seen even when it’s considered ‘cloudy’. Average highs during the summer will even out at around 26 degrees, giving you a comfortable temperature to relax without getting uncomfortably hot. However, it may be best to avoid the midday sun, as this can get very intense and you may notice the locals like to avoid it as well.
Thanks to the beach being flat, you can enjoy the sun while still having the gentle breeze that rolls in off the sea to keep you cool, however, if you would rather avoid wind completely then take to the sand dunes, where you will be able to enjoy a completely wind free experience, allowing you to get really toasty.
Watch out for heat waves though, as these can push temperatures into the high thirties, which can of course make things a little too hot. This is why it’s a good idea to check that the hotel you will be staying in offers air conditioning, as sleeping can be difficult, especially when a heat wave strikes.
There’s no need to fear winter in Maspalomas, as the temperature remains high with average highs hitting 22 degrees Celsius. This makes a great choice for a winter holiday if you don’t like to spend the winter in the chilly UK climate. Swimming in the sea may not be recommended though, as the water can get a little cold during the cooler months but it may still be worth a try.
